Classes

6 weeks down and quite a few more to go but so far, I LOVE homeschooling and so does Summer :o)  We spend our mornings learning all kinds of fun things and each Friday a teacher comes to our house to check the work we are doing.  Right now Summer is reading short books and learning about senses, sorting shapes, knowing the parts of a book, about a healthy diet, and things like that.

Next week the school is having a math lab in the evening where the kids come and play math games and I am excited to take Summer to let her participate.  The school also has a trunk or treat Halloween event coming up right before Halloween and I am already planning on what to do with my Ford Escape.

Besides our homeschooling Summer also has a 45 minute piano class with 7 other kids about her age.  The program we are doing is called Let's Play Music and from the website "By the end of the third year, students are playing piano at an intermediate level, transposing music, composing their own music, sight-reading music, and are prepared to excel in further private piano instruction." How awesome is that?  She will have a performance at the end of the session around May or June and I can't wait to see her playing her tone bells with the other kids.

She is also doing choir with the Clark County Children's Choir on Thursdays for 30 minutes with about 10 other kids her age.  Next Friday the choir was asked to sing at a meeting for Best Western at the Venetian so she will be singing a cute song on stage holding a world flag with the rest of the students who sing.  Too bad it is at 7:30 in the morning, but we will survive!  She will also have a performance on a big stage in December and I can't wait.

On Saturday mornings we have a ballet/tap dance class at Bunkers Dance Center with about 9 other girls her age.  I think she likes dancing, the teacher is really nice, and I really like the studio.  She will eventually learn a routine and perform with the other girls in June.  She is no stranger to performing!

I love all of her teachers too - they are so skilled in what they teach and they are very caring, you can just tell.  Summer really enjoys all her classes and I like watching her learn new things.

So far this has been an excellent learning year.  I am really excited to see what the future brings :o0
